About Us
‘A Sparkling Success’ describes the career of business man and jeweller Doug Newman, proprietor of Gold Arts Jewellers and G.A Pawnbrokers.
His career started when he left school at15 to take a 6 year apprenticeship as a diamond setter and engraver, followed by 2 years National Service as a dental technician. He then joined Ernest Jones to establish and run a manufacturing division and workshop, servicing over 120 retail outlets.
In 1979 he opened his first small shop and workshop in the Lanes of Brighton, manufacturing his own designs, with only one member of staff. He now employs over 40 staff in his 5 retail stores with workshops and 4 pawnbroking shops.
Gold Arts is perhaps most recognised for the range of certificated diamonds which adorn every shop window. With 30 years of knowledge and experience Gold Arts has built a strong reputation within the trade for buying diamonds which has ensured that customers always get the finest diamonds at highly competitive prices
Gold Arts like every business has changed and modernised over the years, with new logos and store interior decorations. One of the more recent developments which really changed the face of jewellery retail has been the emergence of designer silver jewellery. Gold Arts in Brighton was the first shop in the city centre to stock Links of London and Pandora, which are the UKs leading designer brands.
The Chichester store, in the centre of the city has always offered the finest timepieces including ‘time honoured’ brands such as Tag Heuer, Omega, Raymond Weil alongside exciting new brands such as Bremont and T.W Steel. They are proudly unveiling the first floor luxury showroom this September, which will showcase Links of London, Pandora and Thomas Sabo.
Mr Newman believes that the secret of his success is his loyal and professional staff together with the recognition of good quality and maintaining a high level of customer service and satisfaction. His motto “The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten” has kept Gold Arts a purveyor of the finest jewellery in Sussex.
